Overview...
Ever wished you had mates with fabulously funky house near the coast, one of which is a highly accomplished chef, the other a demon with a cocktail shaker, and the third the quintessential 'hostess with the most-ess'? Well, the Whitehouse is probably the next best thing. In fact, its better, there's no arguing about cooking or cleaning and its got a bar, a chic screening room, five decadent bedrooms and a selection of lounges to ensure there's one to suit everyone's mood. The friendly trio of owners, Ali, Matt and Tamara can even set up croquet on lawn and Ali cooks up a storm in the kitchen with delicious results that could rival a top London restaurant. In fact, the only thing missing is a pool, but they have that covered with complimentary membership of the glamorous Dart Marina spa a few minutes away by car. Whether booked by the room or hired as a whole for a 'houseparty' weekend/week, if you're fan of a laid back vibe, have an eye for design classics and love good food and drink, this is the place for you!
Luxurious creature comforts come in the form of Frette linens and bathrobes, huge handmade wooden beds and gorgeous custom-blended toiletries in full size bottles for use in the rooms, and complimentary travel sizes as turn-down gifts. Glamorous gadgets abound including 42" plasma TVs, IPod docs, CD players, DVD players and Nespresso coffee machines in each room, along with mini fridges stuffed with wines, beers and soft drinks. A huge chest full of classics and the latest releases on DVD allows guests the option to view on plasma from the comfort of their 6ft beds, or on the big screen in the the cinema room, handilly located across the hallway from the bar and with a large collection of rums, tequilas, gins, whiskeys and cognacs, plus the usual suspects. An early insight into the inspired menu comes in the form of wickedly moreish herby popcorn and continues with the Mediteranean/British fusion menu, which changes daily according to what's been caught locally and what's in season.

If you can tear yourself away from the Whitehouse, the spa and waterside bistro at the Dart Marina hotel are a big draw. Whilst the beach at Start Bay is a pleasant two mile walk away - perfect for building up an appetite before one of the Whitehouse's famed Sunday lunches or the local cheese plate which tempts the most iron-willed of dieters, both best followed up with an afternoon cinema screening.
Alternatively, try oysters and champagne at the 'Oyster Shack' a few minutes drive away, or glam up for some twenties-style glamour at the art deco Burgh Island hotel, a short drive and a tractor ride (across the estuary) away. Tours with lunch at nearby Sharpham Vineyard come highly recommended, or for more energetic days, watersports such as surfing, windsurfing and water-skiing are available locally, as are boats trip and private boat and skipper hire. Bantham Beach, popular with surfers from far and wide is just a 10 minute drive away.
